A dictionary is a big book, full of lots and lots of words, often heavy enough to hit people with (and actually cause some damage ). It's recommended that you do not read it in the way you would a storybook. It is there mostly for one's reference.

Oddly enough, the dictionary I used isn't even in book format--it's an online one. But I suppose it could still cause some damage if it were swung at somebody. I just don't want to break my computer. D:

And a "connotation" is an implied meaning for a word-- it's not actually stated, but you can usually tell it's there anyway by judging by how the word is used. It's a little difficult to come up with a good example for it, so if I just gave you a headache, sorry. 8D;
